Architectural Studies Bachelor of Arts

Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies

This non-professional four year program combines a liberal arts education with the study of the conceptual content of architectural education. The combination provides a rich foundation valuable to students who plan on graduate study in many architecture-related fields, including architecture, urban planning, historic preservation, landscape architecture, law, business, public policy or museum studies. The BA in Architectural Studies (BAAS) degree is a wise choice for students who have an interest in design but want to be able to experience college life and who seek to establish a solid base of knowledge before committing to a given career path. more

Some of the Many Potential Alternative Career Profiles

Architect
The BA in Architectural Studies provides a liberal arts foundation for pursuing a 3+ year Masters of Architecture (M.Arch.) program at the graduate level of education.

Urban Planner
Urban Planners typically consult or work in government on issues related to land use and economic development, community design and historic preservation. The BAAS can include coursework in our graduate urban planning program, affording students to complete both the BAAS and the Masters of Urban Planning in as little as five years.

Architectural Marketing
Combining the BAAS with a strategic communications graduate degree would provide an outstanding platform for these increasingly prevalent jobs.

Attorney of Construction Law
A Juris Doctor (J.D.) of Law with a BAAS undergraduate degree would prove to be a powerful combination in this specialized area of the law.

Financial Officer, Architectural/Engineering Firm
The BAAS offers a solid foundation from which to pursue a Masters of Business Administration to pursue this career path.

Museum Curator
The BAAS would provide a design background useful for one who decides to pursue a Master of Arts in Museum Studies.

Public Administration
Much of what government administrators address is the provision and management of our communities’ built environment and infrastructure. A BAAS degree combined with a Masters in Public Administration would be an effective combination.

GIS Specialist
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a specialization increasingly demanded in design, planning, criminal investigations and beyond. A BAAS degree would provide a real-world understanding of space and place from which to pursue an MA in Geography focused on the use of GIS.
